Kimoto Gastro Bar
Located in the Central Business District (CBD) at The Sail @ Marina Bay lies Kimoto Gastro Bar – A quaint, unassuming and warm little establishment that serves excellent kushiyaki (skewered and grilled food).
This place is perfect for a much needed relaxation sesh after a hard day’s slog in the office. A couple of skewers in one hand and a glass of beer or sake in the other (thinking whether I really need my job or not) just might do the trick!
One of the owners happens to be a sake distributor to various establishments in Singapore so you can be sure you’re getting the best stuff straight from Japan!
Here’s a list of things that YOU SHOULD ORDER if you ever find yourself at Kimoto Gastro Bar. I didn’t include sake because that’s a given with Japanese food. Sake just brings everything to a whole different level. If you’re unsure as to which sake to order, the friendly staff at Kimoto will point you in the right direction.
Kimoto Gastro Bar has a wide variety of Kushiyaki for you to order. My favorites?
Uzura Tamago (Quail Eggs, $4)
A perfectly hard boiled quail egg, the ones I’m used to eating at CNY steamboats, or so I thought. Then I sunk my teeth in and the soft onsen egg yolk burst into my mouth. Heaven.
Tsukune (Chicken Meatball, $4)
Kudos to the chef on this one. The meatballs were tender, juicy and marinated extremely well. Every bite was a joy.
Buta Bura (Iberico Pork Belly, $6)
Iberico Pork Belly? Six dollars? Yes please. Great tasting premium meat at a not so premium price.
Tempura Moriwase ($12)
Another highlight of Kimoto is their tempura. They have this special tempura fryer that regulates the temperature of the oil. This results in a perfect crispy tempura batter (not the oil soaked stuff some places serve.. urgh).
FROM 5pm to 8pm GET 30% OFF ALL SASHIMI & 30% OFF ALL SAKE BOTTLES. Because Sashimi & Sake. No further explanation needed.
Look how pretty the Sashimi Set is (refer to image above) you can tell a lot of care and effort has been placed on the presentation. Tastes great too! Best part, ask them to fry the fish (it isn’t just there for decoration) after you’re done eating. SO CRISPY!
Is The Juice Worth The Squeeze?
Definitely. For a bar in the CBD, you’re getting maximum value in terms of price and taste. The downside? The place is a tad small so you might want to check on sitting availability before heading down.
