Here’s Your Hack to Have A Blast at This Year’s SG Night Fest

Performances:

The Duel by Lords of Lightning

Imagine this: two men standing at a great height throwing thunderbolts at each other in the middle of Cathay Green. I know, it sounds like something out of a Greek mythology.

The audience are taken on an spellbinding journey as red and blue sparks fly, and where Science and Art comes together to make magic happen.

10.30pm-10.36pm

FierS à Cheval by Compagnie des Quidams

One of my favourite performances, this one here features 3 large inflatable horses cantering with grace along the roads.

The performance is unlike others as there is not much loud noises or colours. Instead, the horses are lit with a soft glow, and the accompanying sounds are subtle. The whole experience feels like a surreal dream, as the ethereal horses parade the streets.

Elements- Water by Six.5

This site-specific performance done by Six.5 uses water as a key element to redefine the spaces around us. The captivating performance of the dancers is enhanced by the use of the reflective acrylics, and water to create a more dynamic effect.

23 Aug: 8.00pm-8.10pm, 10.15-10.25pm
24 Aug: 7.30pm-7.40pm, 8.40pm-8.50pm, 10pm-10.10pm
25 Aug: 7.20pm-7.30pm, 9.45pm-9.55pm
SMU Amphitheatre

Automatarium by David Berga

This performance had me rooted to the ground in awe. As its name suggests, Automatarium is inspired by the automatons from the late 19th Century. Set up like a circus, let the ringmaster introduce you to the various characters. And then, this is when audience interaction comes in. Insert a coin, and watch as the magic happens!

Food:

The Fish Sh-Nack

If you are constantly feeling famished (like I usually, inexplicably am), then this is the place to go. The Fish Sh-Nack is one of the few places that are serving rice portions at this year’s Night Fest, and although I can’t vouch for the actual portion, the tasting portion that I had satisfied me to the max!

I chose the one with the prawns, and was very impressed with how the flavours combined together. With each bowl, you get fresh prawns, generous amounts of fried fish skin, and an onsen egg.

The creamy egg and the crunchy fish skin went surprisingly well together, and the grilled prawns had a nice smoky taste to it.

And if like me, you can’t get enough of the addictive taste of their fish skin, you can buy a pack (or two?) home.

Sunday Roast BBQ

For some of us, a festival is not complete without some good roast and a beer in hand. (Sunday Roast can only help you out with the former, though) I managed to try out their Pork Cheese Bradwurst, Grass-Fed Ribeye, and signature Honey Soy Chicken.

My favourite was the ribeye, as the beef was juicy, and went great with the mash. One of the staff shared that at Sunday Roast, they use little to no seasoning, so that everything tastes more natural. Uh huh, this is one roast that I can keep gorging on!

The Swag Social

Having swag and a social life is cool and all, but unfortunately a long waiting time is not. I queued up for close to 15 minutes before my order was taken, and there was only about 3 customers ahead of me. Was it worth it? Not entirely, if you ask me.

I enjoyed the Smoked Duck Mentaiko, as the mentaiko and duck flavours went very well together. However, the same cannot be said for the rest of the snacks. The Yakiniku Ribeye Beef cubes was not cooked very well, and was slightly cold. Lastly, we got the Garlic Parmesan Fries, which felt more like just garlic fries. It was an “okay lah”, as it was not much different from regular fries.

If you were ask me, the long waiting time on a not-so-crowded day, coupled with the not-so-fantastic food, I’d say I’ll pass on the Swag.

Conclusion

The Singapore Night Fest covers so much ground, and one only has so much time at the event. We hope that this article has been helpful for you to plan your trip!
