Originally located at Macpherson Road, KL Traditional Chilli Ban Mee has expanded to Serangoon Garden Way. Judging from the lunch time crowd, they are as equally successful in Serangoon Gardens.

where’s number 3? don’t worry it didn’t disappear, it’s on your respective tables!

If you have never heard of them or tried their ban mee before, you’re in for a treat. Let me explain to you how their chilli system works. There are five different chilli levels to choose from (1 being the least spicy and 5 being the most spicy). The nice people at KL Traditional Chilli Ban Mee don’t want to be responsible for you if you pass out in their store so they give the customer a free reign of the “chilli corner”. You alone have the control over how much chilli goes in (or not) and how spicy you want it to be.

I noticed some people not adding any chilli in their Ban Mee though. Come on, it’s called KL Traditional Chilli Ban Mee for a reason no? You’re not getting the full experience without the chilli!

Signature Chilli Ban Mee, with Level 5 Chilli, $5

I can’t speak for the rest of the menu but you can check it the rest of their offerings in the image above. I only ordered the Signature Chilli Ban Mee.

ALWAYS order the dry. It tastes so much better even though it gets gobbled down a lot faster than its soupy counterpart. Also, with the dry version, you can have fun with the chilli! I’ve never tried the Tom Yum one (it sounds mad spicy).

It’s really hard to describe the Level 5 in words. I love chilli, I cannot go a meal without some form of chilli or pepper. However, right after my first bite, my forehead and neck broke out in perspiration almost instantaneously. It tastes great, don’t get me wrong but it definitely has a “kick”.

My only gripe with this dish (like most places) is that the portions are minute. I’m a big guy, there should be an “off the menu” option of adding noodles or something.

LEVEL 5 CHILLI mixed in the Original Ban Mee

Thai Milk Tea, $2.50

Pair your chilli creation with a cup of soothing Thai Milk Tea! It aids in putting out “gastro fires” that you might have caused in your mouth. They serve it in those traditional cups they used like twenty or thirty years ago. Not like you millennials would care but it’s BIG.

Psst, ask them for less ice. #auntyhacks
