Little Creatures Opens Up A Branch In Singapore And People Are Going Crazy Over It

James Chan

Little Creatures Singapore

Based in Fremantle, Western Australia, Little Creatures has opened a brewpub right here in Singapore! Having done my degree in Perth, I was pretty stoked when I heard the news.

If you want a table, you’ll have to book early because this place is gaining popularity day after day and you can expect it to be crowded.

The Food

Similar to its Perth branch, Little Creatures Singapore brews and serves their beers on site. You can even ask for a quick guided tour if you like (if they’re not too busy). They have nine beers on tap featuring crowd favorites like Pale Ale, Bright Ale, Pilsner, IPA and Rogers.

For the food, the prices might be a little steep but there’s no denying that their dishes taste pretty darn good (as you’ll understand after reading on).

little creatures mushroom risotto

Mushroom Risotto, $25

Wild Mushroom, Onion, White Wine, Parmesan Cheese

Might not look like much but this dish definitely packs a punch with regards to flavor. The risotto was perfectly cooked, not too soggy nor too hard and each individual grain was chocked full of a rich mushroom taste.

little creatures beef burger

Beef Burger, $28

Caramelized Onions, Bacon, Tomato, Cheddar, Fries and Smoked Paprika Mayonnaise

Don’t overthink this. It is as advertised. There’s nothing special about this other than the Paprika Mayonnaise which leaves a nice lingering spicy aftertaste. The beef was just a tad over cooked though but the tomatoes and bacon fat made up for that dryness.

little creatures fish and chips

Fish & Chips, $26

Tartare Sauce and Lemon

When it arrived, it smelled extremely fishy but be prepared for a big surprise when you take a bite as there was practically no lingering fish taste. The batter they use for the fish is also very light and crispy. My only gripe about this dish is that the tartare sauce might be a little too sweet.

little creatures magarita pizza

Magarita Pizza, $22

Sundried Tomato, Mozzarella, Basil

If they had Pepperoni, I would have ordered Pepperoni but alas, it’s not on the menu. No regrets though as this was my FAVORITE dish of the night. Maybe it’s just me but I felt that the sundried tomatoes had a bite of spiciness to them. The best thing? That light and tasty pizza crust. I could eat two of these babies with no problem.

little creatures pork belly

Pork Belly, $27

Pork Crackling, Red Cabbage Sauerkraut

Super tender pieces of meat combined with melt-in-your-mouth fats and crispy skin. Wow. Sounds like a great combination but wait, there’s more! There are a couple of strategically placed pork crackling pieces here and there which makes this dish really irresistible. Perfect with any of their beers too!

Is the juice worth the squeeze?

I’m a little divided on this one. On one hand, the food and beer is good but it is a little pricey. It’s not economical to be coming back every other day but good for special occasions for sure. If you’re there “just for the alcohol”, that works too!

Enjoy Authentic German Burgers At Picturesque Hans Im Glück

James Chan

Hans Im Glück

Hans Im Glück is a German Burger bar and a must visit for all you Instagram lovers because the place is so darn pretty! Following a consistent dreamy and foresty theme, they even went so far as to import their wood from Germany!

hans im gluck sauces

Located at the International Building, Hans Im Glück houses two areas. One for dining and the other for chugging them tasty cocktails (the bar). Both areas come with indoor and alfresco options.

The Food

The menu can be a little challenging for some (me included). Most of the items on the menu are German words and I had no inkling how to pronounce them. Stick to the good old “point and order”, you can’t go wrong there. That aside, even the menu is so pretty! It was designed like a fairy tale storybook that depicts the story of Hans and his eventful journey home.

At Hans Im Glück, on top of the usual Beef and Chicken Burgers, they have Vegan and Vegetarian Burgers too! These burgers come served from a choice of Sourdough Bun, Multigrain Bun or Naked (ironically this means it comes with no buns). Their buns are also produced by a local German Bakery by the way!

As for your sides, you can choose from Geleit (Mixed Salad), Krautknolle (German White Cabbage Salad), Fritten (Fries) or Susskartoffel-fritten (Sweet Potato Fries). I recommend the Krautknolle as it refreshes your palate with its sourness and makes every bite of your burger seem like a new one.

hans im gluck birkenwald

Birkenwald With Sourdough, $16

Beef and Mushroom Burger

You get the feeling that they’re all about enjoying food and also looking after your body. The Birkenwald is no exception with their Australian imported beef and contains 20% less fat than normal market standards. This is my favorite burger HANDS DOWN. You can never go wrong with beef and mushroom. Hans Im Glück ups their game by spreading that secret, slightly spicy, special sauce on the patty. I’m pretty sure there’s wasabi or mustard in there.

hans im gluck geselle

Geselle With Multigrain, $15

Chicken Breast And Bacon

I’ve always said that chicken breast is a hard meat to work with (literally). Just slightly overcooking it can make it dry and flaky. Fret not, the chicken here was tender and perfectly cooked. However, the bacon was just a tad dry. I don’t know about you but I can overlook the sinfulness of having bacon in my meal just because I ate this burger with the multigrain bun (and this is why I’m fat).

hans im gluck wolpertinger

Wolpertinger Naked, $15

Spicy Patty With Aged Cheddar And Avocado Cream

This is a vegetarian burger and I’m honestly surprised at how much I liked it. The spicy patty is only slightly spicy so don’t get your hopes up spice lovers. But, it works really well with the secret sauce (they have it in ALL of their burgers). I especially loved the avocado cream. It was cool, refreshingly sour and very tasty.

Is The Juice Worth The Squeeze?

You cannot find these German burgers ANYWHERE in Singapore. It’s a true German experience without having to leave the country! Hans Im Glück’s attention to detail is remarkable and burgers aside, they make some pretty great tasting cocktails too! Just remember to save yourself the embarrassment, point and order!

Till 5pm – Top up $5 for a hot/cold beverage and a side

From 5pm – Top up $15 for an alcoholic cocktail (yums) and a side

They have limited seating so I would suggest to make a reservation via CHOPE with the link below:

Put on Half a Pound, Dad

Pei Xia Ang

Father’s Day is this weekend, and we all want to treat our supporting and loving dad right. If you are still fretting over the right choice of gift, then you need to READ ON!

Only recently established, Half Pound burger and Bar Grill has already been a hot favourite among locals.

father's day at half pound

a great place to celebrate father’s day– half pound burger bar and grill

Nestled along Purvis Street, this place focuses on burgers (hence the name), and if Dad is a fan of beef patties, steaks and whatnot, all the more you need to take him there!!

We managed to pop by this week, and here is the review of what we have sampled:

father's day lunch menu

father's day soup

mushroom soup as starter

Mushroom Soup

I usually do not choose mushroom soup from the menu due to its commonness, but this bowl of soup was quite well executed.

Topped with croutons and garnished with spring onions, this soup was lovingly made by the chef. It did not taste like the regular ones poured from a can. As an added bonus, the soup comes with generous chunks of mushrooms to add to its creamy texture.

father's day burger meal

the half pound burger was very flavourful

Petite Half Pound Burger

Don’t be fooled by its name though, this burger may be called “petite”, but the flavours sure pack a PUNCH.

The tender and succulent beef patty carried a smoky aftertaste, complementing the bacon and cheddar for that meaty, greasy taste that all meat-lovers lust for.

fathers day steak

steak frites, good value for money

Steak Frites

For its price, the steak that I had was worth your buck. The meat was tender, and the layer of fat was juicy and TOTALLY ON POINT.

fathers day beer

enjoy a pint of beer to go with your meal

Beer

A hearty burger dish is only complete with craft beer by its side. For an extra touch this Fathers’ Day, treat dad to imported beer from Germany and the States.

From its menu, Half Pound offers Maisel’s Weisse ($9 for half pint, $12 for full pint), and 8 Ball Stout ($12 for full pint).

The former was refreshing and light, while the stout was smooth and easy to drink.
