iO Italia Osteria
As one of the proud owners of the Ospitalita Italiana Gold Seal Award, (a certification given to recognized Italian restaurants located all over the world by the Italian Government, Italian embassies and Italian Chambers of Commerce) I was pretty stoked to check out the food at Italian Osteria. The Gold Seal guarantees that every customer would get to experience true and high quality authentic Italian food and service.
Step through the entrance and feast your eyes on a wide array of freshly baked goods (breads, biscotti and pizzas, yum!). Dine there or pick up something to go, your choice. There’s something about the atmosphere at iO that’s really inviting and warm so dine there if you have the time to spare.
Mushroom Soup with beans, $16
Garlic Bread “Fett Unta”, $6
$16 bucks for a soup? That’s almost the price of a pasta! However, one can get full on just the soup to be honest. Blame the beans. They’re really generous with the beans. Paired with garlic bread that’s been doused in olive oil gives a nice crunch to this extremely hearty dish.
Baked Eggplant Parmigiana, $14
Everything about this is gold. The eggplant was soft and tender, with the tomato base infusing itself seamlessly yet delicately into the grains of the flesh. Then we have that cheese that holds everything together. Perfect, just perfect.
Orecchiette, Pork Sausage, Saffron Sauce, $19
Orecchiette is derived from the Italian words “orecchio” (ear) and “etto” (small). It is an ear-shaped pasta that originates from the South of Italy. It may sound small and look small BUT there’s nothing small about this dish in terms of flavor. Be prepared for a huge hit of the musky notes of saffron with your first bite. Expect a really hard hit. The initial few mouthfuls were interesting but it became a little hard to go down towards the end.
Baked Lasagna “Grandma Style”, $18
The name suggests an age old recipe that I just had to try and out of all the dishes, this was my favorite. My only initial worry was that it was going to be too heavy for me to finish as I already had so much to eat prior to this dish arriving on the table. Surprisingly, it was light and not too heavy on the palate. There were generous portions of mince-meat hidden under the numerous folds of lasagna which is definitely something my grandmother would have done for sure.
What I really want to try but didn’t have the opportunity (or the stomach rather) to was the pizza. Saw a couple of tables ordering them and boy oh boy, I’m definitely down for that. Till next time iO!
