The Wine Buffet At Winederlust Is Something You Have To Try

James Chan

Winederlust

Winederlust is a new wine bistro located at Wanderlust, a beautiful boutique hotel along Dickson Road. Housing over 300 different brands of wine from all over the world, the inner alcoholic in you will be spoilt for choice.

With respect to pricing, I had assurance during my brief tour of the place that their bottles are well below normal retail selling price. What’s more, if you decide that you want to da pao (takeaway) wines instead of drinking at Winederlust, you pay $10 less.

The Wine Buffet

The crux of the matter that I would like to highlight would be their wine buffet. Available every Saturday and Sunday, you pay $48++ for 2 hours free flow of up to 3 different wines. If you don’t have a clue as to what to choose, feel free to ask any of the knowledgeable staff for assistance.

To top it all off, what seals the deal for me would be the food. For an additional $10, you can enjoy and pair selected Chef’s Creations with your wines. JUST $10 for the normal portion!

winederlust tuna

Tuna Tataki Chimichanga, $14 a la carte or $10 with wine buffet

Corn Tostadas, Onion Avocado Sesame Tabbouleh

Seafood and white wine is a no brainer. Senior sommelier, Amir Solay suggested pairing this dish with a Pagos (a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc) and who am I to question a man with over 20 years of experience?

The tuna (sourced from the shores of Japan) was beautifully seared on the outside and extremely fresh. The pairing of the light and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc was perfect for this appetizer.

 winederlust cheese salad

Caprese Mozzarella Salad, $12 a la carte or $10 with wine buffet

Buffalo Mozzarella, Heirloom Tomato, Smoke Fermented Beans

This dish was paired with Pagos, the same Sauvignon Blanc I had with the Tuna. The fermented beans (tempeh) and the mozzarella is a little fatty and leans more on the rich spectrum. The Pagos is perfect to wash away said fattiness and gelat-ness with its light acidity.

On that note, I’ve never had such a tasty and tender tempeh before! I’m used to the hard nonsense I get at Ayam Penyet stores. So you can imagine how surprised I was after my first bite.

winederlust sous vide pork belly

Sous Vide 12 Hours Pork Belly, $20 a la carte or $10 with wine buffet

Braised Lima Beans, Grated Daikon, Pork Jus

Moving on to their mains, this dish was paired with a French Cabernet Sauvignon, a much heavier red wine. The Sous Vide Pork Belly is a heavy dish so pairing it with a heavier, full bodied wine provides the palate with a sense of equilibrium.

Wow. The pork belly was superb! Loved how the fats melted in my mouth and how tender the meat was. The element that I absolutely went crazy over was the pork crackling. It was crispy but not over the top kind of crispy (like Chicharrón in the Philippines). I only wished there was more of that on this dish.

winederlust is it worth it

Is the juice worth the squeeze?

Head on down during the weekend and get that wine buffet. Let’s take one of their main dishes, the pork for example. It costs $20 a la carte but with the wine buffet, it’s only $10!!! SICK! What’s more, you get to pair all the good food with great wines!

Valentines Hack 2018 – Get Your Bang For Your Buck @ Novotel And Mercure Singapore On Stevens

James Chan

Valentines Day 2018

With Chinese New Year falling but 2 days away from Valentine’s Day, the temptation to splurge on fine dining options to impress can be very high (at least for the not married lads). Most content platforms will give you a list of places to choose from. But as for me? I’m listing only the one place that I feel has the best “bang for your buck”.

Novotel & Mercure Singapore @ Stevens

With the excitement of the opening of Novotel Singapore and Mercure Singapore on Stevens Road, you know new restaurants are sure to follow. For this year’s Valentine’s Day, we have Winestone and Foodexchange in our sights!

Winestone

Winestone is a Mediterranean restaurant & bar that doubles up as a wine retail store. Befittingly named based on their experience and knowledge of their wine ambassadors and of course their signature meals being served on stone boards.

For $148++ (per couple), here’s what you get at Winestone:

A BOTTLE of House Red, House White or Prosecco

1 X Anti Pasti Sharing Platter

1 X Surf & Turf (With Pasta) Sharing Platter

1 X Dessert Sharing Platter

1 X Free Parking Coupon

Gift: 8 pieces of Artisanal Chocolate

FoodExchange

Gorge yourself silly with a buffet spread of Asian, European and Indian cuisine at FoodExchange. You’ll be able to watch the chefs prep and cook the food as well at the open kitchen stations! Recommended for more matured relationships. If you’re on your first date, a buffet isn’t the wisest choice for a date (true story).
